President Yoweri Museveni was this Saturday in Rukungiri to officiate the opening of UgShs 800m Bishops house at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyansano.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Museveni hailed North Kigezi Diocese Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Patrick Tugume for heeding Government’s call for wealth creation by guiding communities to engage in income generating activities in only two years he has been in the Diocese.
President Museveni accompanied by the First Lady, Hon. Janet Museveni, said it was important for households to earn income.
“When the community is poor, they cannot construct such a mansion for their Church leaders. If, however, they are food secure and earn income, they will give back to God the same way they have here,” President Museveni said.
He observed that Bishop Tugume had told him he had in the few years since installation as bishop introduced income-generating projects for the community including coffee growing and planting from which Christians earned income.
The chairman construction committee, Ben Kavuya said the newly opened Bishop’s House replaces a two-roomed house constructed in the 1940s by rural Dean, the late Shemu Ndibirwe.
Mr. Kavuya said over UgShs 800m was spent on construction in a record two years, the first project completed in the history of Church in the shortest time.
