On Tuesday, Fort Portal High Court dismissed an application by King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV seeking to block the coronation of Prince David Kijanangoma.
Last week, King Oyo petitioned Fort Portal High Court to block Kijanangoma’s coronation, which is scheduled for December 23rd at Rwengoma Palace in Fort Portal.
Uganda Radio Network quotes Oyo arguing through his lawyer, David Atuhairwe, that he is the legitimate King of Tooro since he succeeded his father, the late Patrick Olimi Kaboyo.
King Oyo argues that any attempt to coronate Kijanangoma as the King of Tooro is illegal.
Unfortunately on Tuesday, Justice David Batema, the Fort Portal High Court Judge dismissed the application saying it was wrongly filed.
According to URN, the judge said that since Oyo is the recognised King of Tooro Kingdom, there was no need for him to file the application personally.
Museveni to attend Kijanangoma’s coronation
Andrew Irumba, Kijanangoma’s strategist tells us President Yoweri Museveni is the chief guest at the ceremony that will take place at Rwengoma palace outside Fort Portal town.
“I can authoritative report that the chief guest on Kija’s coronation will be H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, president of the republic of Uganda. 23/12/2015 is the D-DAY,” Irumba said.
Irumba told Insider on Friday that his group had already met Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde to commence preparations for the president’s visit to Fort Portal.
“As I talk now we are meeting President’s advance team at Igongwa cultural center in Mbarara to work on modalities,” Irumba told us.
He added: “Lt Gen. Henry Tumukunde is representing the president in meeting happening now, now.”
Kijanangoma accuses Oyo of disrespecting the Tooro Kingdom constitution and misusing the Kingdom assets.
