President Yoweri Museveni has today been awarded with Uganda’s highest military award.
Gen Museveni No.001 was decorated with the ‘Order of Katonga’ military medal by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe in Buikwe where Heroes Day celebrations are taking place.
“The Order of Katonga” (Swahili: Nishani ya Katonga) is the highest military decoration of the Ugandan Honours System.
It is awarded very rarely for extraordinary heroism.
The order is named after the final and decisive battle of the National Resistance Army during the Ugandan Bush War.
It was fought near the Katonga River.
In October, 2014, Museveni awarded himself “Order of The Commander-in-Chief” medal during Police’s centenary celebrations at Kololo airstrip.
Mr Museveni received the highest medal while Gen Aronda Nyakairima, Gen Kale Kayihura and the late Erinayo Oryema received The Exemplary Service Class One Medal.
In 2015, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru of Tooro Kingdom gave Museveni the Kasagama achievement award for contributing greatly towards the development of the Kingdom.
At the start of June this year, President Museveni was awarded the Afrika Verein Award for Excellence in Leadership from the German-Africa Business Association in the Germany capital Berlin.
The same week, President Museveni was recognised as a dynamic leader by Africa Masahariki Fest for his outstanding performance in promoting the integration of the East African Community.
President Museveni was recognised along others including former Presidents, Daniel Arap Moi of Kenya and Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania, respectively.

In October 18, 2014, Museveni was nominated for the International Kim II Sung Prize in recognition of his contribution to independent development of African countries, as well as peace and prosperity in Uganda.
The President was to later receive the Award in April, 2015.
In November 28, 2014, Museveni received the Pan Africa Excellence Award at the Africa Leadership Awards for his contribution towards the socio-economic transformation of Uganda, Africa and the world.
In March 25, 2015, Museveni was awarded a Peace and Stability Award for being the first President of Uganda to restore total peace and stability in every part of the country.
