Gen Mugisha Muntu, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president says they have started luring former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi to join them ahead of the 2016 polls.
Muntu disclosed this while addressing Busoga FDC party delegates on Wednesday at Ntinda View Hotel in Iganga during his campaigns for election as FDC party flag bearer.
According to Muntu, they want Mbabazi to join FDC so that he can finance some of their activities.
Mbabazi was fired in September 2014 as premier and December of the same year as secretary general of the NRM party over his presidential ambition.
He later tried to pick nominations forms to contest in the NRM primaries, but opted out after he was directed by the party’s Electoral Commission to pay the nomination fees before he could receive the nomination forms and electoral guidelines.
Mbabazi has since picked nomination forms from the Electoral Commission to contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2016 general elections.
However, the former PM has repeatedly said he believes in the original ideals of the ruling National Resistance Movement party and he still holds the party card.
Commenting on the decision by other political parties to form militia groups for the coming elections, Muntu said unlike other parties, FDC will not form a youth brigade to protect its votes.
“Why should we waste our time in case we are not organized and united as a party right from the grassroots level,” he asked.
