Soroti Municipality Member of Parliament, Capt. Mike Mukula, who in May this year declared his retirement from Ugandan politics, has realised he didn’t mean it for sure and picked NRM nomination forms.
Mukula picked forms from Kyadondo party headquarters on Friday to contest for the post of chairperson eastern region in the ruling NRM.
Speaking at Soroti Sports Ground during his thanksgiving service that was led by Rt. Rev. George William Erwau the bishop of Soroti Anglican Diocese, in May, Mukula said just like God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh day, his seventh day has come and he was saying bye bye.
Mukula said that come February 2016, his name will not appear on any ballot paper adding that he will continue to pay allegiance to his party and become an advisor.
Mukula noted that he is not going to nurse any person for the Municipality seat, because it’s the mandate of the People to elect the person of their choice.
Mukula told the crowd that it’s with luck that he is still alive, adding that he underwent two health operations that narrowly claimed his life.
Mukula added that he has not stepped aside because of fear but his leadership for the past 20 years is enough and wants to leave opportunity for others and he concentrates on his personal business.
Yet this week, Mukula told media after picking the forms that all he wants is to keep the NRM candle burning in the Eastern region.
He said that he was happy to have been part of the team that brought peace to the eastern region during the arrow boys’ saga, promising to continue preserving this.
Mukula, has been in the heart of Teso and Ugandan politics since 1996.
