PRESIDENT John Magufuli on Wednesday made a surprise visit to the maternity Ward of Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam where he saw congestion of mothers due to the shortage of beds caused by limited space.
The president headed straight to the ward after visiting the Chief Sheikh, Mufti Abubakar Zubery bin Ally, who is undergoing treatment at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute, according to a statement issued by the State House.
Dr Magufuli was compelled to go to the ward after his entourage was stopped by a group of women who requested him to visit the ward to see the plight facing mothers, including sleeping on the floor due to shortage of beds.
After seeing for himself the situation and talking to mothers who have just delivered, the president said he has learnt a lot from the visit. He promised to take up the matter in the quest for a solution.
