High Court judge Lidya Mugabe has ordered Airtel and MTN telecom companies to bring forward phone call records of Amama Mbabazi’s missing aide Aine Christopher. These will aid in tracking and getting a clue of Aine’s whereabouts.
Lawyers told reporters outside court that they are more interested in a phone conversation between Mr Aine and one of his relatives Ezra Kabugo on the night of his disappearance.
Kabugo, who claims to have led police officers to Mr Aine, says the latter contacted him on phone moments before his arrest and told him that his house had been surrounded.
Mbabazi’s lawyers insist that for purposes of verifying Kabugo’s assertions, it is important that the details of these phone conversation are produced in court. They say police needs to establish the location of Aine at the time of the call and the voice recording of what was discussed.
Aine disappeared mid-December last year, when he was picked up by security officers and taken to an unknown destination, as reported by his family members, yet police deny knowing his whereabouts. He was also rumored dead while police claim he could be in hiding.
Mbabazi lawyers of Muwema and Company Advocates are pushing for Uganda Police to produce the body of Aine in court.
