Members of the 10th parliament have each received their iPads in a bid to reduce on the cost of printing to August House.
Members started picking the iPads from the procurement office in Wednesday.
According to Chris Obore, the Director Communication and Public Affairs, the legislators are excited but will have to return them at end of term.
According to him, if an MP fails to return the iPad, he/she will be deducted Shs500,000 from their salary as compensation for the more than Shs3m iPads.
On Wednesday morning, Information Technology (IT) office of parliament sent out text messages asking the legislators to pick their iPads.
“You are requested to pick Ipad from E3-02 East Wing, Parliament House starting today 20/9/2016. Contact officer Ext 435”, reads the text message to MPs.
Obore says the iPads are being issued in alphabetic order.
According to Obore, parliament delayed to issue the iPads because they were still being engraved.
He, however, couldn’t disclose the amount spent on the iPad, saying he needs to consult the relevant offices.
Each of the MPs, iPad goes for slightly more than Shs3m.
