Rwampara county MP, Vincent Kyamadidi is currently nursing injuries after being thoroughly beaten by his rivals’ supporters.
The incident happened Thursday at Mwizi Sub County when angry supporters of Charles Ngabirano, the Rwampara County NRM parliamentary candidate, went out of their way and assaulted the MP.
They accused him of possessing a box with pre-ticked ballot papers.
The MP was lucky to be rescued by anti-riot police but he had already sustained injuries.
Skirmishes were also reported in Rushasha Sub County in Isingiro district where supporters of Nathan Byanyima, the Independent Bukanga county parliamentary candidate and those of his NRM rival Stephen Kangwagye, came into a titanic clash.
Voting called off
Earlier, the electoral commission called off voting for the Member of Parliament for Dokolo South County in Dokolo district over inaccuracies on the ballot paper.
The ballot papers mixed up names and pictures of candidates Daniel Okello and Jasper Okello, all independent candidates running against NRM’s Felix Okot Ogong, UPC’s Denis Ekoch, FDC’s Vincent Opito and independent candidates, Edwin Odur and William Eram.
Benjamin Ewal, the district’s Electoral Commission Registrar told Uganda Radio Network, the process could not continue with such an anomaly.
Likewise, EC also suspended election of parliamentary candidates in Kibale and Kitagwenda Counties in Kamwenge district over mistaken ballot boxes.
The ballot boxes for Kibale County were instead dispatched to Kitagwenda County and vice versa.
Abass Namara, the Kamwenge district Returning Officer told URN the elections for the directly elected Members of Parliament had been suspended in the two constituencies until further notice.
The Kibale County parliamentary seat is chased by Eng. Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe [NRM] and James Birungi [FDC] while the Kitagwenda County MP seat is a race between Agaba Abass Mugisha [NRM], George Spencer from Go Forward and Jonathan Abaine, Nturagye Rashid and Charles Ahimbisibwe, all independents.
Meanwhile, in Lwengo some people were caught with 50 pre-ticked ballot papers at Kaboyo Primary school polling station.
