Nakawa Division MP Michael Kabaziguruka and 19 Uganda People’s Defence Forces [UPDF] soldiers and three policemen have been remanded to Makindye military prison and Kigo prisons respectively.

Kabaziguruka, 19 soldiers and 3 policemen were on Tuesday produced in Makindye General Court Martial and charged with offences relating to security and treachery.

The legislator together with the three others challenged their trial in Military court arguing that they could not take plea because court has no jurisdiction.

They were first arrested at the start of June for plotting to overthrow the government.

Kabaziguruka has been in and out of police custody on allegations of illegal possession of guns; moving from Special Investigations Unit in Kireka to Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja and back to his home where he was put under house arrest.

His arrest was linked to 30 soldiers who reportedly plotted a coup against President Yoweri Museveni’s government.

It was at the same time that Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] mobiliser for northern Uganda, Dan Oola Odiya, was imprisoned for treason.

Entebbe Airforce Garrison Commander, Colonel Dan Opito Odwee, was also arrested for subversion.

On Tuesday, the new Court Martial Chairman Lt Gen Andrew Gutti charged the group afresh with security offences and treachery before remanding them until July 12, 2016.

Forum for Democratic Change to Kabaziguruka belongs said his case like any other would crumble under the weight of “foolishness”.
