An irate mob in Tororo county nearly succeeded lynching Tororo county MP Geoffrey Ekanya.
The dramatic scene took place Wednesday morning when Ekanya encountered angry supporters of Otuke District woman MP, Annet Nyakecho.
Nyakecho, an independent plus four others are contesting against Ekanya, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) member in the newly created Tororo north County.
The angry mob armed with pangas, clubs and other weapons, intercepted Ekanya at Atiri in Mukujju sub county at midnight.
Ekanya who was moving in the company of two police officers was held hostage until 2am.
They accused him of voter bribery.
Lucky for him, the commander of the Field force unit in charge Bukedi sector Sam Omala, sniffed the plot and swung into action and rescued the MP.
Ekanya was later taken to the central police station to record a statement.
He told police that he was rushing to Atiri to rescue one of his agents from the supporters of Nyakecho who had threatened to lynch him.
According to Bukedi region police spokesperson, Sowali Kamulya, there was no sufficient evidence to link Ekanya to voter bribery since he had no money on him at the time.
