Moroto District Police Commander, George Obia, on Sunday not only broke but also confiscated a camera belonging to NTV Uganda.

Police had deployed heavily along Kitara-Moroto road waiting for FDC presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, who is campaigning in the district.

Journalists lined up along the road and started capturing video footage of the police deployment.

Apparently, DPC Obia was no amused by the presence of press and in a fit of anger kicked a camera belonging to an NTV journalist, Ronald Galiwango, breaking it in the process.

He then ordered his juniors to confiscate it’s the broken pieces.

In an ensuing scuffle, cameras belonging to New vision photojournalist, Kennedy Oryem and Bukedde TV’s Ernest Kyazze were also reportedly damaged.

The journalists including Jjingo Francis, a senior parliamentary reporter at NTV and a one Brian, were also rushed to Moroto police station but were not detained.

They were instead asked to help in making a General Enquiry File for the Police to investigate the incident.

Karamoja RPC, Aruk Maruk, regretted the incident and said Police will investigate the matter.

The damaged NTV camera is still in the hands of the police.
