Kabale residents are accusing their ministers David Bahati and Henry Banyenzaki of suffocating ambulance services with their dangerous mechanical condition improvised “minivans”.
During a recent radio programme on Voice of Kigezi, it was found out that Ministers Bahati, Banyezaki, aspiring candidates Prof Augustus Nuwagaba and Isaac Katureebe have private ambulances in their constituencies.
On Saturday, residents tasked Rubanda East Member of Parliament Henry Musazizi, Kabale Woman MP, Ronah Ninsiima, Deputy RDC and Dr Patrick Tusiime to explain to them the real person charged with controlling ambulances in Kabale district.
According to residents, Bahati got a minibus which he designed with his pictures and put a siren on top passing it as an ambulance.
The improvised “ambulance” is parked in the compound of the Chairman LC 3 of Kamuganguzi, a one Kirasha.
Minister Banyezaki also allegedly delivered a “DMC” (Dangerous Mechanical Condition) as an ambulance which Dr Tusiime says is too difficult to manage and has since abandoned it.
Kabale Deputy RDC, Moses Niwagaba, says ambulances must be special vehicles not some improvised minibuses.
“We risk killing people in these vehicles, this must stop,” Niwagaba said.
Professor Nuwagaba is said to own a dmc ambulance while Isaac Rukandema has an Ipsum with words of “ambulance” inscribed on it.
What annoyed residents is the fact that these vehicles which pause as ambulances don’t have the equipment to help people in times of crises.
Kabale authorities have directed traffic police in these constituencies to impound the ministers’ “private ambulances”.
