Irene Muloni, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development has withdrawn her election petition challenging the victory of Sarah Wekomba, the Bulambuli Woman Member of Parliament.
According to Uganda Radio Network, Muloni says she is no longer interested in the case whose judgement was scheduled for this morning at 10am at the high Court in Mbale.
According to Muloni her decision to withdraw follows advice from President Yoweri Museveni who she says insisted on peace and unity.
URN says a team from Bugisu headed by Umukuka of Inzu Ya Masaba sir Bob Mushikori met President Museveni and advised him to intervene in the case between Muloni and Wekomba for purposes of fostering unity amongst the Bamasaba.
They argued that the political divide between the two parties a d their supporters was threatening peace and unity amongst the Bamasaba.
It was upon this background that President Museveni summoned Muloni and asked her to withdraw the case.
