The Minister of State for Works, Asuman Kiyingi, has dismissed as untrue reports that he has defected to Go Forward camp led by former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi.
In a statement, the Bugabula South, MP/Parliamentary Candidate, says he has no plans of Going Forward or supporting the candidature of Mbabazi.
“According to the reports this conclusion is based, in part, on the choice of the chair as our symbol which symbol is also used by the Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi.”
Kiyingi says he took part in the recent NRM primaries for Bugabula South Member of Parliament which elections were characterised by gross irregularities and malpractices.
“We rejected the declared result and petitioned the NRM Electoral Commission. Our petition was not handled satisfactorily.”
He says following wide consultations with the electorate and a petition signed by over 29,000 duly registered Bugabula South voters advising him to stand, he decided to stand as an Independent.
“I chose to use the Chair as my symbol because it is very well known to my supporters since I used it in the last 2011 elections where I stood as an Independent having been cheated in the NRM primaries in almost similar manner and circumstances.”
“To date many of my supporters have my old posters with the chair symbol in their houses.”
Kiyingi notes that though standing as an Independent because of unresolved issues at constituency level and in Kamuli District, he still subscribes to the NRM party and am a serving Minister in the NRM government.
“I therefore fully support the candidature of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the NRM flagbearer.”
“Accordingly it is not true that I joined or defected to JPAM or the Go Forward pressure group as has been alleged and reported,” he concluded.
