We are verifying a report from Mengo indicating that military personnel have surrounded the home of Frank Bulira, an aide to Dr Aggrey Kiyingi.
Kiyingi who spoke on the matter shortly said Bulira’s house is located in Mengo along Lunguja Road, Plot 20.
One of his mobilisers, it was Bulira who went to the Uganda Electoral Commission to pick up nominations papers for Dr Kiyingi last week.
He was denied the nomination papers on account that he was not a registered voter.
EC spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa, said Kiyingi too was not registered as a voter and could not even take part in the 2016 presidential race.
According to the report, military moved early Tuesday morning and surrounded his aide’s home.
“It [home] is still surrounded,” Kiyingi said.
He added: “Every peace loving person should voice their objection to this tyranny and intimidation.”
He said Bulira has not committed any crime and should not be subjected to harassment.
UPDATE: More details from Mengo indicate that military has backed off Bulira’s home after media made itself present on the scene.
We are told Bulira was not at not at home by the time military came to arrest him.
“But they [operatives] gave his wife a very hard time and wanted to arrest her instead,” said a family source.
“Now the military personnel have backed off after seeing the heavy presence of the media,” the source added.
