Military deployed heavily in Kawempe this morning after mayoral elections turned chaotic.
At around 1:00am Thursday morning, voters and agents at the Kampala Tally Center were nearly engaging each other in fist fights.
The tensions brewed after Emmanuel Serunjogi was declared Kawempe mayor-elect.
Voters accused Electoral Commission officials of delaying the declaration of winners claiming these officials were up to something suspicious.
Military police rushed to the scene and took over the Tally Center.
Serunjogi then emerged winner of Kawempe mayoral race with 21, 941 votes followed by FDC’s Kizza Bakasambe.
