General David Sejusa has appeared in the Makindye based court martial this morning.
Sejusa who was arrested on Sunday has been in detention at Makindye military barracks.
Court presided over by Maj Levi Karuhanga, has charged Sejusa with making partisan political statements.
Court has been adjourned for 15 minutes to allow Gen Sejusa’s lawyers;David Mushabe, Erias Lukwago, Michael Mabike, Yusuf Nsibambi, to get acquainted with the charge sheet.
Gen Sejusa’s lawyers complained to court martial that they haven’t been served with charge sheets so they can advise their client accordingly.
Sejusa was arrested after making political statements in the press alleging President Yoweri Museveni has already February 18 elections.
Speaking through his lawyer, Rwakafuuzi yesterday, Sejusa said he was not afraid of being charged in relation to the ‘defiance campaigns’.
Sejusa says all he said was that there is need to protect votes from being rigged and that only a free and fair election can calm tensions in the country.
All this, he said, is within legal means according to the Ugandan constitution.
Sejusa also faces prosecution over remarks he made while in exile in London in 2013 claiming FDC candidate Kizza Besigye had won the 2006 elections.
Gen. Sejusa was coordinator of the intelligence services when he authored a document claiming Museveni was grooming his son, Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to succeed him.
Meanwhile, at the Makindye court, military has taken over the premises chasing away boda boda riders ahead of Sejusa’s appearance.
