Amama Mbabazi’s lawyer, Fred Muwema, says his client is to be arrested for murder, money laundering and spying, according to the available intelligence.
“We have received information that there is a plan to arrest our client,” Muwema told a press conference in Kampala on Monday.
“They plan to charge him with alleged murder, alleged money laundering and alleged spying for a foreign country.”
The lawyer said the Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP] was in advanced stages of preparing this case.
“We have, for that matter, written to the DPP to confirm this impending arrest,” Muwema revealed.
Saying the charges were trumped up, Muwema revealed that Amama could be arrested today or tomorrow when he is supposed to be nominated as a presidential candidate.
Muwema said the development was a deliberate move intended to fail Mbabazi’s nomination.
He said Go Forward already has a plan of lawyers that will give support to all those who will go to support Mbabazi tomorrow.
“All those coming to Nakivubo should not be worried. We have a team of 500 lawyers to offer free legal services to those arrested.”
Muwema advised that everything should be done in the open just in case.
“…and we have asked to participate in the investigation if it’s true. We don’t want govt to let Amama Mbabazi go scot-free if he committed any crimes but we want transparent investigations.”
He said his client has never killed any person and denies any involvement in murder of anyone.
In August 24, Insider published a story of how Mbabazi was training spies in USA and Russia to counter the NRM election rigging machinery.
In October 2014, Insider wrote a story of how Mbabazi was involved in a Shs 500bn money laundering fix.
