Mbabazi says law permits him to consult

Amama Mbabazi says his team paid for Jinja venues and the money was received although the municipal now claims to have rented the venues to Uganda Police.

A letter from Office of the Town Clerk Jinja town says Kakindu Play Ground has already been given to police for its activities while Kazimingi Industrial Park chairperson doesn’t want political activities on this venue.

“We paid money for the venue and it [money] was received,” Mbabazi told press in a mini briefing at Mt Elgon hotel in Mbale before setting off for Jinja town.

“If it [venue] was pre-booked by Police, why would they receive our money,” Mbabazi wondered.

He said this development was meant to complicate his consultations.

“They are only complicating my process. You don’t have to belong to any Party [NRM?] to consult. Even Independents can consult.”

Mbabazi said the law permits him to consult.

“The only way you can educate ignorant people is showing them the right thing.”

In the morning, police chased Mbabazi to the hotel and surrounded the premises.

The RPC Elgon Region, Jacob Opolot, and OC Station, Peter Mugabi, said they were offering security to Mbabazi.

Opolot says they would offer Mbabazi a lead and an escort Car up to R. Mpologoma as he leaves Mbale for Jinja.

They have kept the promise and escorted Mbabazi out of Mbale town.

He is now enroute Jinja town for his fourth consultative meeting this week.
