On Monday evening, Amama Mbabazi’s “Go Forward” team submitted to the National Independent Electoral Commission all documentation for my qualifications for Presidential candidate.
They were led by the Go Forward Chief of Staff Ms Solome Nakaweesi Kimbugwe.
Others on the team were members of the Legal and Electoral affairs committee, IT committee and Field Operations.
Also submitted were the required number of signatures yet the team says it collected 5 million signatures in total.
Most of these signatures came from Wakiso, Kampala, Kalangala, Kanungu and Kibale districts.
Under the law, presidential aspirants are obliged to collect at least 100 signatures from two thirds of Uganda’s 112 districts.
This means an aspirant has to raise at least 750 signatures from 75 districts.
Amama was recently endorsed by majority opposition political parties under The Democratic Alliance [TDA] to lead them in the 2016 general elections.
The former Prime Minister and NRM Secretary General is set to stand as an independent candidate after accusing the ruling party of working to frustrate his ambitions.
He also expected to resume his consultative meetings soon.
