The head of Amama Mbabazi’s security team, Christopher Aine has been charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing police officers on duty and escaping from safe custody.
Aine was charged before Jinja Grade 1 magistrate, Immaculate Nyamwenge.
It is alleged that on 12th September, 2015 at Kazimingi Industrial Park in Jinja Municipality, Christopher Aine with others at large assaulted two Police officers while executing their duties.
SP Edgar Nyabongo and ASP James Katushabe are the officers said to have been assaulted.
Aine denied all the charges and was granted bail.
He was kidnapped last week by unknown people while leaving Nakasero offices.
Police denied arresting him but it was later discovered that he was detained at Nalufenya police station in Jinja town.
In a statement, JPAM team, said while “police were firing live bullets into the crowd in Jinja and after someone had been shot in the leg, Aine, the brave one, decided to go and confront the police over the use of live bullets to disperse a crowd of people who were unarmed”.
“It is at this point that the some of the arrogant police officers, who did not take kindly to their actions being questioned decided to rough him up while continuing to fire live bullets.”
The group says Aine did not at any one time hit a policeman.
“We are shocked that the police has decided to remain silent regarding incidences where Aine intervened when the crowd was turning violent towards the police.”
The team claims Aine even saved riot police commanders including Isabirye “who was going to be lynched by a mob in Soroti after the people surrounded him and his fellow officers after they ran out of tear gas and ammunition”.
“If Aine had not stepped in and saved him, this man would surely be dead as of now. So please people, Aine is not a criminal, he is a champion of Justice who managed to preserve sanity during very chaotic sequence of events.”
