Kampala City Lord Mayor has refuted claims that he didn’t attend the city carnival because there’s no political capital to be gained.
Lukwago said he had no motivation to participate in the two day Shs800 million carnival.
“Attending or not attending the carnival was my choice. It was not compulsory for me to attend. Besides, I was never given a role to play in the festival and therefore, there was no need for me to be there,” he said.
According to him, the festival should not just be a one off celeratons.
“We need to look at ways of how we can market our city and country as a whole other than just dancing and eating on the streets. I had so many proposals including developing talents, showcasing our cultural activities, among others but my efforts were frustrated,” he added while appearing on NTV’s Fourth Estate.
Lukwago said his absence at the festival was not because of the obvious pulse between him and the KCCA executive director Jennifer Musisi.
