Opposition leader Dr Wrn Kizza-Besigye chief Rukungiri campaign Coordinator is nursing wounds after unknown people attacked him last night.
A gang of ruffians allegedly attacked Darius Tweyambe who coordinated Besigye’s campaigns in Rukungiri district during the 2016 elections and badly assaulted him.
The official was waylaid by masked goons on his way home from his business and clobbered to the head with metallic.
He sustained head injuries.
In March 2016, Tweyambe was arrested from Rukungiri and driven to Kireka in Kampala where he was detained for close two weeks.
He was later released without charges.
In 2004, he was arrested together with Besigye on allegations that they were members of People’s Rdemeption Army [PRA] rebel outfit.
They were charged with treason and served two years in Luzira prisons.
After securing a court bail, Tweyambe was re- arrested 2007 by the infamous black mambas at High Court premises and detained in Nyamushekyera Bushenyi prison.
He was incarcerated with Besigye’s brother Musasizi Kifefe who later died.
The attack on Tweyambe comes at the same time opposition Forum for Democratic Change is questioning the arrest of Nakawa division legislator Michael Kabaziguruka for alleged possession of guns.
According to FDC deputy secretary General Harold Kaija, Kabaziguruka had been under house arrest before being arrested.
“We don’t know what they are looking for. They want to create fear among us,” Kaija said.
He says FDC expects police chief Kale Kayihura to come out and tell them what he wants from them.
