High Court in Masaka has dismissed an electoral petition filed against Mary Babirye Kabanda, the current Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka district.
Her rival, Nanziri Kasse Mubanda, in her petition accused Kabanda of voter bribery, falsification of results and ballot stuffing.
Mubanda cited the arrest of Babirye’s agents on polling day, for distributing sugar, soap and money to voters in Kyanamukaka.
Kabanda’s sister Mary Naiga and one of the agents were arrested on polling day for bribing voters.
Basing on that, Mubanda claimed the distribution of items in exchange for votes affected the outcome of the polls.
Presiding Judge Michael Elubu on Thursday ruled that Mubanda had failed to produce evidence linking her rival to vote rigging.
Elubu said although items were distributed, there is no proof that those who received them were actual voters.
The judge, therefore, dismissed the petition for lack of evidence.
