The man who was arrested recently for allegedly extorting millions of shillings from MPs promising to help them secure ministerial posts has been charged.
Kampala Metropolitan police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango yesterday said Franklyn Babibasa was charged with obtaining money by false pretence.
Mr Babibasa, disguising as Brig Ronnie Balya, the Director General for Internal Security Organisation (ISO), reportedly conned ministerial hopefuls of money between Shs1m and Shs5m.
Onyango, said Babibasa would call the MPs claiming that President Museveni had assigned him to make reports regarding their conducts.
He is the first person to be arrested and charged with similar offences.
In March, police arrested a 58-year-old man who was masquerading as a senior State House employee in the welfare department.
The suspect was obtaining money from ministers and others members of the public in the guise of helping them meet President Museveni.
Mr Wilber Kototyo, a senior commissioner of police, also deputy head of the Economic Fraud and Corruption department at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, said the suspect was targeting people following up President Museveni’s pledges.
