A shooting has been reported outside the White House, according to US Park Police.
Police told ABC News that a Secret Service agent shot an armed man at a security checkpoint near the building.
Police said the shooting occurred west of the White House and the victim’s condition is not known.
The White House went in lock down Friday afternoon after what federal law enforcement agencies said was a shooting just outside the West Wing.
President Obama was on a golf outing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland when the shooting occurred.
The Secret Service did not immediately say where the shooting occurred, and there were conflicting accounts from other agencies. The U.S. Park Police, which has jurisdiction of the neighborhood surrounding the White House, said there was a shooting shortly after 3 p.m.on West Executive Drive.
But the District of Columbia Fire Department said it happened at a gate farther away, at an employee entrance at 17th and E Streets, N.W., and that they transported someone to a local hospital.
