The Makerere University Academic Staff Association has issued an ultimatum to the institution’s management to immediately pay their salary.
The members in this association argue that they have outstanding arrears that date back from the beginning of this year.
Muhammed Kiggundu, the Chairperson for this association said that they have not been paid their salary for June and the last five months.
He adds that they should be paid immediately or else they will lay down their weapons.
And that due to no pay for the teaching staff, the lecturers will not be able to serve at the university.
This happens at a crucial time when the semester and academic year at Makerere University will be opening on the 6th of August.
Kiggundu also says that they have families and obligations to fulfill and therefore also need their pay immediately.
The threat to partake in a strike indicates that the strikes that were assumed never to occur again after the fees issue of Makerere University was recently rectified are not about to cease.
There is also immediate need to solve this issue to avoid losing time in the new semester.
