A Makerere University student who recently claimed to have made less toxic teargas from local materials says his life is being threatened with police calling him a terrorist.
This comes just days after Makerere University management disowned the 23-year-old Samuel Mugarura’s innovation project.
“I am not a terrorist. Stop harassing me. I’m just someone who things out of the box. All my friends have deserted me because their lives and careers are at risk for associating with me,” said Mugarura, a third year student of Chemistry and Botany.
But just a day after he demonstrated his project to the media, Dr John Wasswa, the head of the Chemistry department, a unit under the College of Natural Science (CONAS) that investigates the structure and reactions of substances of matter, said Mugarura specialises in plant science and he could not claim to make teargas or smoke bombs.
