Makerere students arrested for protesting against university closure


A group of Makerere students has been arrested in the city center of Kampala for staging a protest against the closure of the university.

The students who were holding placards written on “We want Makerere open” were whisked away by Police.

The  arrested students have been identified as, Kato Paul, Ainebyona Ronald and Edmund who are being detained at Central Police Station (CPS).

However according to the metropolitan police spokes person Emilian Kayima confirmed their arrest and they are still being interrogated.

Makerere University was closed  recent on directive by the president of the republic of Uganda following the strike lecturers who were demanding their salary enhancements worth Shs 28 billion.
