Court in Kampala has sent back to remand Makerere University senior lecturer who is accused of raping one of his female students.
Law development Centre Magistrate’s Court in Kampala today sent Dr Christopher Bakuneta who is accused of raping a 22-year-old female student who was living in his garage back to Luzira prison after the state prosecutor said police investigations in the case are in final stages.
The presiding Magistrate George Watyekere remanded the don until June 7 when he is again expected to appear in court to be committed to the High Court for trial.
Prosecution contends that Prof Bakuneta, a lecturer of Zoology at the College of Natural Science at Makerere University on March 24, this year at the same institution had sexual intercourse with Ms Vasha Ntegeka without her consent.
The student said she had not locked the door of her dwelling when Prof Bakuneta entered the garage and raped her.
However, Prof Bakuneta admitted having had sex with the victim, but said it was consensual from his office at the Zoology department, not at the garage, adding that the girl reported the case to police in afterthought. The girl reported the matter to police two days later.
