A lecturer at Makerere University has been arrested for allegedly raping a first year student.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, says the 58-year old lecturer in the faculty of Natural Sciences is being detained at Wandegeya police station.
Onyango says the rape file against the lecturer [not named] will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney today.
He said police surgeons examined the student and found marks on her body suggesting she was struggling with the don as he descended on her.
She was given post-exposure prophylaxis drugs to stop her exposure to HIV in case her attacker was HIV-positive.
The lecturer has been using the victim’s elder sister, also a former student at Makerere university.
He allowed her to rent his garage in Kikumi kikumi, behind the university.
Last week, she forget to lock her door, an opportunity the don utilised to sneak in and rape her.
The lecturer has since denied the accusations.
