The Tanzania Parliament has endorsed the 2016/17 Budget and its Appropriation Bill.
According to The Citizen, this gives President John Magufuli’s administration the green light to start implementing the Sh29.5 trillion revenue and expenditure plan in line with the approved targets.
Currently, the House has a total of 389 MPs of whom 195 (equivalent to a half of the total number of lawmakers) made the legally allowed quorum to endorse the all-important national Budget.
Speaking shortly after the voting and as soon as the votes had been counted, Deputy Speaker, Dr Tulia Ackson, said a total of 252 MPs took part in the crucial exercise, while 137 were absent.
Of the 252 MPs, 251 voted in favour of the budget while the 252nd MP was the Deputy Speaker herself, decided to stick to the supervision/adjudication role.
“No MP voted NO so I declare that the Budget has been endorsed by an overwhelming support,” Dr Ackson is quoted byCitizen as saying.
