Tanzania president John Magufuli has revoked the appointment of Dar es Salaam City Director, Wilson Kabwe, who is accused of misusing his office.
Local media quotes Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Paul Makonda, saying Kabwe denied Dar city council a levy of Tsh3.0bn/- that was to be realised from Ubungo Bus Stand.
The RC said his team, led by regional secretary, found that the director used 2004 bylaw that stipulates the levy per bus was 4,000/- instead of 2009 bylaw that levied 8,000/- per bus.
Worse, Kabwe who is signatory for any city contract or agreement, also extended the expired contract of Parking System for nine months more instead of announcing for a new tender.
The contract expired in 2015.
Magufuli who was opening Kigamboni Bridge reportedly asked the gathering what they wanted him to do.
“The gathering told the president to ‘tumbua jibu’ (‘press the boil’) which he did,” reports Tanzania Daily News.
The president then ordered a fresh investigation into the director.
