The National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) is in collaboration with Regional Administration and Local Government looking for suitable ways of implementing President John Magufuli’s campaign pledge of providing each village countrywide with Sh50 million, Parliament was told yesterday.
The deputy minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth and Employment), Mr Anthony Mavunde, said the development funds would be released with effect from the forthcoming financial year.
Mr Mavunde was responding to a question by Halima Bulembo (Special Seats – CCM) who wanted to know when the President’s promise would be implemented and if the youth would have access to the funds.
Meanwhile, the minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled, Ms Jenista Mhagama, said the funds would be distributed equally to Tanzanians irrespective of their political affiliations.
“The President made the promise which is contained in the CCM Election Manifesto and the execution of the promise will benefit all Tanzanians, for Dr Magufuli is not leading CCM supporters only,” she said.
Ms Mhagama was responding to a supplementary question by Mr Kasuku Bilango (Buyugu – Chadema), who called on the government to commit itself if the funds would be for all the citizens, saying rumours claimed only CCM members would be beneficiaries of the initiative.
