Tanzania has dismissed reports that President John Magufuli has banned the wearing miniskirts in the country.
The report has been circulating on social media after, according to the government statement, was started by Monday Blues as gossip.
The report was then carried by Standard Media Kenya and beyond.
Tanzania’s ministry of foreign affairs said the development allegedly aimed at curbing HIV/AIDS was no true.
“There is no doubt that His Excellency President Magufuli and his government are strong proponents of decent dressing, but the ministry wishes to put the record straight that the president has not issued any ban on miniskirts for any reason,” reads the statement.
The ministry said Magufuli had no reason for banning miniskirts.
