James Ereemye, the presiding chief magistrate in jailed Forum for Democratic Change former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye’s treason case at Nakawa Court has visited Luzira prison.
Last week, Ereemye offered to visit Dr Besigye following his continuous pleas to the court whenever he is produced of how his rights and those of other prisoners are being violated in Luzira prison.
The magistrate’s visit is to ascertain what exactly is happening in the largest government prison where the opposition leader and other inmates are being held.
But Ereemye while meeting prison officials Thursday morning said he was not in Luzira to see Dr Besigye but on a routine DCC visit of prisons.
He was accompanied by the OC CID Kira Road Police Station, DPC Jinja road police station, Nakawa Court Resident State Attorney.
He said he only told Dr Besigye that he would be on a routine visit of the prison and would check some of the issues he raised.
Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Kira municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, among other opposition members also visited Dr Besigye.
