Nandala Mafabi has offered himself for the position of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General.
Mafabi announced today in a social media message addressed to FDC members and supporters.
“Dear members of FDC, I have decided to present myself for the position of Secretary General of the FDC,” Mafabi stated.
He said the decision was in the “interest to strengthen FDC and position it to provide alternative leadership to this country”.
Mafabi says he reached the decision after wide ranging consultations within the party and outside.
The office has been held by Alice Alaso who weeks back announced her retirement from the same position following the expiry of her term.
Also Budadiri West legislator, Mafabi lost the Leader of Opposition to Hon Wafula Oguttu, last year.
He was also defeated by Gen Mugisha Muntu to the position of FDC President after Kizza Besigye retired from that position.
He reportedly fell out with the two FDC strongmen and even made a move at starting his own political party with the support of Busoga loyalists.
From 2006 until 2011, Nandala Mafabi served as the Chairman of the powerful Public Accounts Committee in the Ugandan Parliament.
From 2001 until 2006, he served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Economy.
From 2008 until now, he serves as the Chairman of Bugisu Cooperative Union.
Mafabi’s interest in the SG position comes ahead of the National Delegates Conference due on June 12, 2015, when Alaso is expected to officially leave office.
