Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General Nandala Mafabi is sceptical of Supreme Court’s impending ruling on the election petition.
Go Forward candidate Amama Mbabazi this week filed a petition in Supreme Court challenging the outcomes of February 18 Presidential elections.
Mafabi too agrees the elections were not free and fair.
He says even the observers said so.
He says the state-owned media was never equally shared by candidates; only the incumbent was given attention.
“The Electoral Commission never spoke out,” Mafabi said while appearing on NBS TV Thursday.
He said the poll ended on 19th, not 18th because voting was extended.
“Why did Dr Kiggundu rush to declare, excluding over 3,000 stations?”
He maintains the Electoral Commission deliberately delayed arrival of voting materials in opposition strongholds Kampala and Wakiso.
While there is evidence if electoral fraud, Mafabi however sees a bleak future as far as challenging the elections in court is concerned.
“Supreme Court judges are NRM cadres,”he pointed out.
“That’s why we are calling for an independent audit of the results.”
According to Mafabi, it is very clear that Kizza Besigye won the election.
“One who has been cheated can never be a “bad loser”. We shall demand that the right results be declared.”
He said NRM supporters are not celebrating because they know the majority who were cheated might beat them.
“An independent Electoral Commission is non-existent in Uganda because chairman Dr Badru Kiggundu is an NRM cadre who is appointed by the president .”
