SPLM secretariat has clarified on an earlier incident indicating that D SPLM (IO) Secretary General and Minister of Energy, Dr. Dhieu Mathok Ding Wol, had been arrested by President Salva Kiir’s national security forces in the capital Juba.
James Gatdet Dak, the spokesperson of the South Sudan first vice president said SPLA soldiers surrounded a hotel and arrested opposition ministers.
The spokesperson said minister Ding had been arrested after severely being beaten.
“South Sudan’s opposition ministers loyal to First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar, are being arrested in Juba. We call on IGAD to intervene,” Dak said in a social media statement.
He said the SPLM/SPLA (IO) ministers have been in danger while in the capital Juba.
In a statement, a Public Relations at SPLM, Jesus Deng Madingchaui, said the incident that happened at crown Hotel to Honorable Dr Dhieu Mathok Ding was instead contained by National Security.
He said National Security promised to bring [culprits] those responsible for the attack on the minister to book.
“Dr Dhieu sustained bruises on both knees and elbow after he was tortured. He is back safe and sound. Thank God,” Deng clarified.
Meanwhile, Dak has called on the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) Chairman, President Festus Mogae, and IGAD leadership as well as partners of peace to find out about the fate of the SPLM (IO) ministers in Juba.
