The commissioner of Aweil North County Kon Angok Kon says that opposition forces are present in the northern part of the county near the border with Darfur.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, he accused forces of defector Dau Aturjong and rebel leader Riek Machar of carrying out activities in the area.
He added that the opposition forces include those who defected from Wau last year.
He said they have passed into some parts of the county and now reside there.
Kon further blamed forces of “Machar and Aturjong” for attacks previously carried out in the Raja area.
Opposition denies Gen Gore defection
In a statement, opposition says the people of greater Equatoria unilaterally rejected the Salva Kiir regime.
On 17 May 2015, the leaders of Greater Equatoria in SPLM/SPLA -IO and the leaders of Greater Equatoria serving in government signed an agreement of ideas, on the current crisis that the state of South Sudan is passing through.
According to Cde.Nyarji Jermlili Roman D/Spokesperson SPLM Chairman Office, a committee from the both sides was formed after these meetings that continued for 3 consecutive days in Kenyan capital Nairobi.
The committee agreed on: the unifications of visions that will guarantee the immediate implementation of federalism as a system of governance during the transitional period, in the Republic of South Sudan, additional to this comprehensive reforms in all National and state institutions and total overhaul, reformation and transformation of the National army and the status of National Capital city.
This document was signed by representatives of 3 Equatoria states leaders in government led by Justin Yako and on the side of greater Equatoria’s leaders in SPLM/SPLA by Cde.Ramadhan Hassan Lako, the chief coordinator in office of the chairman of SPLM/SPLA-IO, Dr.Riek Machar.
“Dear all, supporters and sympathizers to set matters correct we are affirming to you that the meetings convened by our leaders and those of Equatoria leaders in government of president Salva Kiir in Nairobi, Kenya last week does not reflect returning of any Greater Equatoria leader to the government in Juba,” the statement reads.
SPLA/SPLM –IO faction has rubbished the circulating rumours that the Lt Gen Alfred Lado Gore who hails from Greater Equatoria has decamped back to the Juba government.
“There have been news circulating in social media and some websites maliciously informing the public of the defections of Equatoria leaders within the revolutionary movement. We assure you that its just sheer speculation, rubbish and baseless allegations .It is considered as dangerous propaganda which is meant to defame the image of SPLM/SPLA-IO.”
The statement says Gen Gore, the deputy chairman of SPLM/SPLA-IO and all leaders of greater Equatoria in SPLM/SPLA-IO are keen enough, remain committed and still loyal to SPLM/SPLA-IO under the leadership of Dr.Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon and they are committed to change the regime by any means possible.
“They have no intention to abandon the revolutionary movement after fighting the government for almost two years, the leaders from both sides agreed to change the regime in Juba and it should be for immediate effect from now.”
The document signed by the both sides will be hand over to IGAD member states, the TROIKA countries, Africa Union, European Union and United Nations in addition to some African countries such as Nigeria, Chad, Algeria, South Africa and Rwanda.
