South Sudan rebel commander Col. James Deng Mayar has announced a new armed opposition outfit opposed to the Juba government.
Col Mayar made the announcement on Sunday saying they had split from the SPLM-IO led by the first vice president Riek Machar.
Mayar is quoted by Radio Tamazuj saying he joined General Agany Ayie rejecting the peace agreement signed by the government and armed opposition in August last year.
His rebel group is stationed in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.
“We have split with a big number of soldiers around 100 soldiers and joined General Agany Ayei,” Mayar told the radio.
Brigadier General Agany Ayiii, is one of the government officers who changed allegiance and joined General Peter Gatdet Yak, one of the senior rebel commanders, who defected from the rebel faction under Machar.
“When we rebelled and joined Riek we were calling for changing Kiir government.”
He said they had split because Machar did not fulfil his commitment to change the government of Kiir and accepted the position of the first vice president.
He also said they want the chief of general staff removed.
Mayar said they reject the transitional government of national unity formed recently.
The group was serving in the armed opposition forces under the overall command of General Dau Aturjong.
