Capt. Donozio Kahonda, an inmate at Kirinya prison in Jinja [not Luzira as earlier reported] floored Minister of justice and constitutional affairs, Maj Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, in NRM primaries to win the Ruhinda county MP seat in Mitooma district.
Capt Kahonda gathered a lump sum 21, 467 votes, trailed at a respectable distance by Otafiire with 12,949 and Prof Muhanguzi coming last with a miserable 4,594 votes.
The NRM registrar for Mitooma district is expected to announce Kahonda who led in all the nine sub counties.
Capt. Kahonda was arrested and imprisoned Kirinya prison for alleged forgery.
It is also alleged that Otafiire was behind the arrest of Capt Kahonda who feared would take his seat [he was right].
Kahinda has been a Member of Parliament for Ruhinda since 1996.
It said Otafiire has been at loggerheads with the district officials who worked underground to plot his downfall.
Meanwhile, Thomas Tayebwa picked the Ruhinda North seat after getting 15,092 votes followed by Patrick Musinguzi with 6,598 votes.
