NRM party Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba, has picked nomination forms for President Yoweri Museveni from the Electoral Commission headquarters.
Lumumba was accompanied to the Electoral Commission by the NRM Deputy National Treasurer, Dr. Kenneth Omona.
Lumumba told journalists that they picked the nominations and candidate’s endorsement forms early enough to enable their candidate go through the documents and abide by the regulations.
She expressed confidence that the NRM party will win the 2016 elections without any hurdles.
Lumumba said it was her responsibility as secretary general of NRM to present a flag-bearer to the Electoral Commission.
“So I came to pick the forms, to go and read through, know the guidelines, know what is required of us and make sure we do everything within time,” she is quoted by URN as saying.
She added: “I have not picked on behalf of the President please. I have come to pick on behalf of the NRM flag-bearer. I will unveil my candidate to you at the right time.”
Jotham Taremwa, EC spokesperson, who handed the forms to Lumumba said they will only hand him the forms once he has met the requirements demanding that he is accompanied by two individuals.
Aspirants are expected to collect at least 100 signatures from at least 75 districts in the country.
The nomination exercise is expected to close on September 21 when the aspiring candidates are expected to return their nomination forms after paying a non-refundable fee of Shs 8m.
Other who have so far picked forms include; former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, Fredrick Kunya, Deo Lukyamuzi, Joseph Mwambazi and former Makerere University vice Chancellor Venansius Baryamureeba.
Others are former Kampala Mayor Nasser Ntege Ssebagala of Liberal Democratic Transparency Party, Biraaro B. Benon of Farmers Party, Adam Kamulegeya, Dr. Abed Bwanika Mumeya Magomu Muzamil and Weraga Erisa Kiggundu as independent aspiring candidates.
