Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was on Friday morning briefly detained by opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye’s workers when he went to his Kasangati home to check on him.
Lukwago was detained in Besigye’s home for close to two hours until Forum for Democratic Change Secretary for mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe intervened.
Turinawe pleaded with Besigye’s employees to release Lukwago had already started sweating.
Lukwago’s woes started when a police search for Besigye in his home was fruitless.
Besigye’s workers had vowed not to free Lukwago not until police had left.
They said there was no use for police to continue deploying at Besigye’s home yet he was not there.
Besigye had reportedly beaten a 24-hour police surveillance and sneaked out of his home to attend the burial of Makindye Chief Magistrate Richard Mafabi in Sironko District.
