Lukwago returns for Kampala Mayoral seat

Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, has announced he will seek the same seat in 2016 general elections.

Lukwago made the announcement Tuesdayat St Matia Mulumba Parish Church Hall.

He was escorted by members of his pressure group, the Truth and Justice Platform.

Lukwago said his intention was to return the people’s power to them.

“I want to inform President Museveni, that Omuloodi (Lord) is still in the country,” he told the congregation.

Lukwago will now face singer Daniel Kazibwe, aka Ragga Dee and Capt Francis Babu, who are chasing the same seat.

Lukwago was elected to that position on Monday, 14 January 2011 after beating President Museveni’s choice, Peter Sematimba.

He was voted out of office on 25 November 2013 by Councillors after a tribunal found him guilty of incompetence and abuse of office.

The Kampala Capital City Authority councilors voted 29 to 3 to impeach him.

He was re-instated on 28 November 2013 after the High Court Judge Yasin Nyanzi ordered Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze to stop the implementation of the tribunal report that paved way for his censure.
