Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been arrested and rushed away.
FDC deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija says Lukwago was intercepted by police outside their offices in Najjanankumbi and arrested.
Also arrested was pastor Happy Ngabo who usually conducts FDC’s Tuesday prayers.
He is currently detained at Katwe Police Station.
Makerere lecturer Dr Stella Nyanzi was also arrested at FDC offices and locked away.
Several supporters were arrested as they tried to access the FDC headquarters in Najjanakumbi.
Before his arrest this morning, Lukwago had written on his Facebook page saying “the provisions of Art. 3 of the Constitution doeth command all citizens of this country to RESIST all machinations intended to overthrow the Constitution, apartheid-like ban orders inclusive.”
He added: “With all due respect to Justice Kavuma, the unconstitutional orders issued on Friday will not deter me from attending today’s prayers at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi.”
On Friday, Justice Kavuma issued an interim order blocking Dr Besigye’s planned peaceful demonstrations at Nakivubo Blue primary school on May 5.
FDC party president Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu on Monday said no one had a right to block prayers and that they would continue with their programme.
Police deputy spokesperson Polly Namaye, had warned opposition against holding defiance activities which were last week banned by court.
Police is now deployed at most FDC offices across the country as part of the security ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing in slated for May 12th.
