Brig Henry Tumukunde has Monday been officially promoted to the rank of Lt General and retired from the army.
The announcement of Tumukunde’s promotion was made at the close of August 2015 by army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda.
Today, Tumukunde was decorated at the Army Headquarters in Mbuya, by Chief of Defence Forces [CDF] Gen Katumba Wamala, in the presence of top army generals and other officers.
Maj General Frederick Alexander Oketcho was also promoted to the rank of Lt General and decorated.
The Deputy Government Spokesperson, Col Shaban Bantariza, has also been retired from active service.
Bantariza was handed a Certificate of discharge from the army.
Speaking at the ceremony, Katumba said retirement is now a regular process in the army.
“Soon some of us will be joining you to serve this country in other capacities,” Katumba told the retiring officers.Tumukunde who has been in the army for 34 years told officers: “We say farewell to you with honour and nostalgia after this long stay.”
He asked them to remain behind, give the army all the time and grow it into a much better force in terms of professional competence.
He also observed a moment of silence for the fallen former army commander, Gen Aronda Nyakairima.
Brig Henry Tumukunde served as Chief of Military Intelligence.
