The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon. Winnie Kiiza has defended her decision not to include some members of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] in her cabinet.
According to Kiiza, service to the country is not all about being in the Cabinet.
“One can serve outside the Cabinet,” she said Thursday while appearing on NBS television.
Kiiza said she left out Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] members while naming Cabinet until they are certain about contents of deal between UPC and the ruling NRM party.
“We looked out for people who are willing to volunteer, on top of their official responsibilities.”
Leaving out pro-Besigye members
Kiiza says the only pro-Besigye FDC members left out are Hon. Nandala Mafabi and Hon. Odonga Otto.
The Aruu county MP yesterday in a bitter statement accused Kiiza and FDC party president Mugisha Muntu of betraying and revenging against Besigye, the former presidential candidate.
“Not everyone can be part of the Cabinet,” she argued.
“People are quick to criticise but for the two times Parliament has sat, we raised Kizza Besigye’s detention.”
She said the party shall do everything legally possible under Parliament rules to speak out on Besigye’s detention.
“Government must unconditionally release Kizza Besigye. He has no case to answer. He is simply being witch-hunted.”
Kiiza said President Yoweri Museveni is detaining Kizza Besigye because he feels uncomfortable about the love people have for him.
She said Besigye’s detention is proof that this country doesn’t respect human rights.
“When you oppose Museveni, you become an enemy.”
