Legendary politician and former vice president Prof Gilbert Bukenya has called upon parliament to pass the law enabling President Museveni to rule for life.
The former Busiro North MP says Museveni is the founder of the nation who deserves special treatment.
Bukenya further said that Museveni is a Mahathir Mohamad of Uganda; so, Uganda would let him be a special something and lead until his time comes.
Mahathir Mohamad, who ruled for 22 years, was Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister. He is credited for leading the transformation of Malaysia from a third to first-world country.
Article 102(b) of the Uganda constitution, prevents President Museveni from standing again in 2021, having attained 75 years.
However if there is an amendment in the constitution, Bukenya’s prayer could be answered.
Several attempts have been done to see that President Museveni is eligible of standing and these include the failed bill by Hon. Kafeero Ssekitoleko that sought for the scrapping off the age limit of Judges, electoral commission officials and others related positions.
Meanwhile local leaders from Kyangwanzi district spearheaded by their woman MP Hon. Anne Maria Nankabirwa recently passed a resolution calling for amendment of the constitution strictly to scrap off age limit.
